Birds are nothing new to me – I have watched and drawn them since I was young. Lithuanian birds differ in everything: their songs, their looks, their character. I like to sketch them in my own way, breaking up planes and splitting volumes, but a bird I draw must always be recognisable at first glance. I admire birds' colours, and when I paint I don't hesitate to push that intensity further. In winter birds give nature a contrasting brightness, and that is where this titmouse came from: it first landed on one of my linen rug designs and later became this print. The almost square image sits as well on a shelf as on a wall.
