A drake in profile – acrylic on canvas, 80 × 60 cm, painted in 2018. I like to draw birds in my own way, breaking up planes and splitting volumes, but they must stay recognisable at first glance; here the head is built from green, teal and blue fields, with a lime bill and a red cheek against a pale sky. I admire birds' colours, and when I paint I don't hesitate to push that intensity further. The original has found its home; this print is reproduced from it.
