Almost the same Print

‘Almost the same’ is built from rhythm and break. Two groups of vertical strokes sit on white, in blues and pale aqua, applied thick so you can see the pull of the brush. They almost match. Almost align. But the spacing shifts, the order changes, and the gap between them matters as much as the marks. It’s not a pattern that repeats perfectly. It’s a pattern that remembers, then adjusts. 

Structure is present but it isn’t rigid. There’s a system, and then there’s variation within it — a different shade here, a wider space there, a line that’s heavier than the last. The painting doesn’t ask for symmetry to be valid. It’s complete because of the differences, not despite them. Attention moves between the groups, noticing what’s the same and what isn’t, and both are allowed to exist.
