Finding Inner Peace
Acrylic painting by Renate van Nijen
I began painting my Buddha series during a particularly difficult period in my life. Certain experiences had left me feeling deeply upset, and I found it almost impossible to stop thinking about what had happened. The same questions kept returning: why had things happened this way, and why had people behaved as they did?
Then something began to change.
As I worked on my Buddha paintings, surrounded by colour, I discovered a sense of calm that had been missing from my life. Painting became more than a creative activity. It became a way of letting go, finding balance and reconnecting with myself.
In Finding Inner Peace, the Buddha's peaceful expression contrasts with the lively, expressive colours surrounding him. I painted this work in acrylics, using the strong colours and textures that are so characteristic of my paintings.
I hope this Buddha will bring a little of that same feeling of peace into the home of whoever chooses to live with it. Perhaps it will offer a gentle reminder that even when life around us is turbulent, we can sometimes find stillness within ourselves.
The original painting has been sold. High-quality canvas reproductions are available in a range of sizes.
