Oil Painting on Canvas 1975 - app. 83 x 67 cm  (framed with a floating frame)

Art Style
The painting is a classic example of Surrealism in the style of Salvador Dalí, combined with elements of Naive Art.

Image Description
A pencil sketch as a preliminary draft for an oil painting.
A huge, cracked chessboard stretches out as a desert landscape under a blue-violet sky with bare trees in the background. On the board stands a medieval watchtower as a rook piece and a golden crown as the king. In the foreground, a monumental hand rises from the ground holding a small, round mirror, reflecting a distorted chessboard scene. It symbolizes the final chess move, as a burning watchtower flag can be seen, which the monumental hand—representing the "queen" in the game—strikes, thus putting the king in check. The sawed-off trees in the desert are the thrown pieces. Signed W. Schneider 75.

Image Analysis
Composition: Dominant central perspective with strong depth lines created by the checkerboard pattern, contrasted by the vertical hand in the foreground, which is shifted off-center to the right.
Color and Light: Warm, earthy ochre in the desert meets a cool blue-violet in the sky, while the sharply defined black-and-white of the chessboard adds graphic hardness.
Texture: Visibly uneven, slightly wrinkled canvas with a rather flat, matte, and detail-poor paint application (especially in the sky and hand).
Perspective: Extreme, almost theatrical vanishing-point perspective (chessboard) that creates the illusion of infinite space and is surrealistically distorted by the relative sizes (hand vs. trees).

Hello dear art friends!

I’m Walter from Germany and a lover of contemporary art. Nowadays, the creative possibilities with digital graphics and image editing programs have become a true enrichment for creative inspiration.
That’s why my motto, "We’ll see each other in another world," has become so vivid.
This applies especially to the surrealist and geometric art styles. Art is a lifelong passion for me, and I enjoy creating creativity in my free time.
Classical paintings with Acryl, Oil, Airbrush, Silk or Pencil are also in my portfolio and posted only in my Gallery linked by "Welcome to Walter's Gallery!"
