The Embrace was painted in the year 2010 when I had just moved to the village of La Herradura in southern Spain. It was first exhibited in 2011 during a solo-exhibition and presentation of one of my books, Cheers, breaking the silence, one voice at a time.
When I had just moved a friend of mine came to visit. She is a Feng Shui expert. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice which helps to harmonize the environment of a person to promote balance and positive energy flow.
I had left a previous partner a few years prior and my friend asked me.... Are you ready for a new relationship. I told her that I was. She then suggested that I put the various couples paintings that I had at the time in my bedroom. My house and bedroom were mainly filled with paintings of women on their own. I did what she told me.
And to my surprise, not that much later I met my now-husband, a Spanish organic avocado farmer. So was this a coincidence? I keep the painting in the bedroom where my husband and I sleep, so for this reason I only make the prints available.
