FUNKSTYLE DANCE VIGNETTE OF THE MASTERS
During the COVID-19 lockdown, when art studios were closed and traditional painting was no longer possible, American artist Stevenius turned adversity into inspiration. Armed with only a laptop and digital art applications, he created more than 100 original digital NFT works of art, transforming his lifelong experiences into a groundbreaking collection. Having grown up on the streets of Los Angeles as a street dancer and later becoming a professional choreographer in Hollywood's music video industry throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Stevenius understood firsthand the culture, creativity, and pioneers who shaped the movement. His vision was to honor both the celebrated and the often-overlooked legends of Boogaloo popping, popping, locking, roboting, tutting, waving, backsliding, moonwalking, and locking—artists whose innovations laid the foundation for many of the dance styles performed around the world today. Through his digital paintings, Stevenius preserves the faces, stories, and choreography of these original masters, ensuring that their contributions will never be forgotten. Displayed in the American Indigenous Museum of Art, this collection invites visitors from across the globe to discover the true originators of these influential street dance art forms and to appreciate the enduring legacy they have left on modern dance and popular culture.and
