Charity Angel
Charity is part of a series of angel paintings that I created for a solo exhibition in Nerja, a beautiful town in southern Spain.
At the time, I felt drawn to creating light-hearted, positive paintings, something that would bring a little happiness into people's lives.
The original is an acrylic painting in which I also incorporated glitter. Depending on the angle of the light, the glitter creates an almost magical effect, like little golden raindrops falling across the painting.
Naturally, a canvas reproduction cannot reproduce the actual sparkle of glitter, but the colours and textures still give an impression of the original effect.
When I paint, I often mix my colours directly on the canvas. I don't search for conventional perfection. Instead, I like to find perfection within imperfection, allowing the painting to develop as I work.
I enjoyed creating my angel paintings so much that I later painted another 33 smaller angels for my Angel Oracle Card deck, called MeMoment Angel Oracle Cards. Each of those angels carries its own special message.

About the art and the artist
Welcome to my colourful world.
I’m Renate van Nijen, a Dutch-born artist and published writer living in Southern Spain. Every image in this shop began as an original painting, created by hand in my studio.
Please visit the Shop menu to explore my different collections, from the remarkable women that I painted inspired by my book The HeArt of Paris to flamenco, bulls, Buddhas, angels and inspiration mandalas. Visit the Shop to discover the artwork that speaks to you.
The Print on a wall example is from my original Palingenesis (Selfie) painting inspired by a photo of me in my early twenties.
