Gallery Collection 55 - ‘My Pieces Don’t Fit’

Framing: No Frame
‘My pieces Don’ Fit’ is literal and brutal. A rough bronze brick circle sits in the centre, painted with heavy strokes and visible texture. From behind it, thick black tendrils or cracks burst outward like roots or a nervous system. On top are actual LEGO pieces in red, green, yellow, black and white. Some are whole. Some are broken. The white canvas is left exposed everywhere else. The bricks are a wall. The black lines are pressure. The LEGO is fragments that do not fit the original instructions.
Through neurodivergent eyes, this is the anatomy of a meltdown or a breakthrough. The brick circle is the mask. It is rigid, constructed, and deliberate. You built it brick by brick to look solid, to look normal, to keep people out. But the black cracks are what happens under sustained pressure. They are the anxiety, the overstimulation, the thoughts that spiderweb whether you want them to or not. The LEGO are the pieces of you that will not click into the neurotypical set. They are your stims, your special interests, your sensory needs, your bluntness, your joy. Each one is bright and functional on its own, but they do not make the picture on the box. You glued them down anyway. This piece says the wall was never going to hold. The cracks are not damage. They are proof that the real stuff is bigger than the structure you built to contain it.
