Muladhara is the base or root chakra, traditionally associated with grounding, stability, security and our sense of belonging in the world.
In this original oil painting, the woman rests within a landscape of warm reds, terracotta, orange and earthy tones. Her body curves gently around the Muladhara mandala, which appears in the lower corner like a source of energy and strength.
Behind her are two forms that can be seen as angel wings or as the sails of a boat. I deliberately leave that interpretation to the viewer. They may offer protection, or they may be ready to carry her towards a new horizon.
The theme running through my Chakra Women series is:
Sail away towards your horizon of happiness
I created the series especially for one of my solo exhibitions in Frigiliana, the beautiful white village in Andalusia, southern Spain. Each woman is painted in the colour connected with her particular chakra and carries its own atmosphere and energy.
Although my usual work is created freely with palette knives and expressive marks, the Chakra Women have a slightly softer and more polished quality. I feel that this Muladhara woman brings warmth, calm and a quiet sense of being held.
This print is taken from my original oil painting and can be displayed individually or combined with other works from the Chakra Women collection.
