This work began with a simple photograph of a face. I started to interrupt the image with small gestures — strips of yellow tape crossing the eyes and a drawn hand appearing beside the head. These interventions partly hide the face, but they also create new ways of looking at it.
The collage plays with ideas of visibility and interruption: what we choose to show, what we hide, and how small marks can completely change the way we read an image. I like the tension between the softness of the photograph and the directness of the added elements.
The result feels a little playful, a little unsettling — like a moment where an image starts to question itself.

About the Artist
Hello, I’m Vica, an artist based in Glasgow. I create mixed-media artworks and prints using materials such as paper, paint, thread and collage.
My work often combines simple figures, patterns and bold colour fields. I’m interested in how marks, lines and repeated shapes can suggest signals, movement and the ways we find our place within different systems and environments.
Each piece begins as an original handmade artwork, and the prints allow these works to travel into new spaces and homes.
Thank you for taking the time to explore my work and for supporting independent artists.
