The original artwork was created using a simple mark-making technique. I cut lines into a potato and used it as a printing tool, inking it with black ink and repeatedly pressing it onto the surface to build up a dense pattern of intersecting lines.
As the layers grew, the marks began to resemble fragments of maps or street networks. I then added colour on top — loose, playful shapes that interrupt the grid and shift the rhythm of the composition.
I enjoy this kind of spontaneous process, where a very simple tool can generate complex structures and unexpected directions.

About the Artist
Hello, I’m Vica, an artist based in Glasgow. I create mixed-media artworks and prints using materials such as paper, paint, thread and collage.
My work often combines simple figures, patterns and bold colour fields. I’m interested in how marks, lines and repeated shapes can suggest signals, movement and the ways we find our place within different systems and environments.
Each piece begins as an original handmade artwork, and the prints allow these works to travel into new spaces and homes.
