This is one of my horse pieces of Jay, the head and neck drawn in graphite on Fabriano paper, then scanned and brought to life in Procreate.
It’s a powerful, muscular horse caught mid-stride—strong lines for the head, mane, and legs in deep black graphite, with fine hatching and shading to give it real presence and motion. The body is overlaid with this bold red oblong shape right at the centre, like the beating heart of raw power and energy. It cuts through the form, glowing against the grey-black tones, drawing the eye straight to where the strength lives.
The contrast between the organic, flowing graphite and that sharp, geometric red block creates tension—wild life contained, or maybe unleashed. It’s all about vitality, momentum, and that quiet intensity you feel around a horse in full movement.
