‘Respect the Divide’ Print

‘Respect the Divide’ two triangles meet on this canvas: one gold, one silver, each carved with thick, rhythmic ridges that flow like fingerprints or neural pathways. A clean white line holds them apart yet also connects them, letting both halves exist without blending.

In the context of neurodiversity, the piece reads as a visual of cognitive difference and coexistence. Neither texture is "wrong" or needs correcting. The gold and silver hold equal weight, but they process in distinct patterns. The divide is not a barrier; it is a boundary that lets each way of thinking keep its own rhythm while still forming one whole composition.

The heavy impasto makes you want to touch it, and that tactility matters. For many neurodivergent people, sensory input and physical feedback are key to regulation, focus, and understanding. The repeated grooves act like stimming made permanent, a record of motion that soothes and organizes. This work pushes back on the idea that minds should merge into one standard pattern. It shows that separate processing styles can sit side by side, equally valuable, equally bright, and the space between them is not empty. It is respect.
