Lotus Buddha
An expressive Buddha painting by Renate van Nijen
Lotus Buddha is part of my series of paintings called Buddha Impressions.
I have been fascinated by the teachings of Buddha for many years, but it wasn't until I experienced a particularly challenging and stressful period in my life that I began painting Buddhas.
Painting became a way for me to relax, let go of worries and rediscover a sense of inner peace.
In my Buddha paintings, I love using unexpected, almost surreal colours on the faces. I often mix the colours directly on the canvas, allowing the painting to develop naturally. I am not looking for technical perfection, but searching for perfection within imperfection.
In Lotus Buddha, the vivid blues, warm reds and colourful textures surround a serene face, while the red lotus adds another expressive element to the composition.
My hope is that these Buddha impressions will transmit some of the same calm I experience while creating them. I believe that the art we choose to surround ourselves with can influence the atmosphere of a room, and I like to imagine Lotus Buddha bringing a sense of peace, colour and positive energy into someone's home or workspace.
Available as a high-quality canvas print in a range of sizes and framing options.

The Print on a wall example is from my original Palingenesis (Selfie) painting inspired by a photo of me in my early twenties.
