There are moments in an artist's life that change everything, even if they don't realise it at the time.
Cmee was that painting for me.
For years I painted women with their eyes closed or gazing into the distance. Then, without planning it, I painted a woman who looked directly back. Wherever you stand, her eyes seem to meet yours, creating a silent connection between the painting and the viewer.
I never set out to explain who she is or what she is thinking. I prefer each person to discover their own story within my work. Some see strength, others vulnerability. Some recognise peace, longing or inner confidence. There is no right answer.
Painted in my expressive, colour-rich style, in acrylics,, Cmee invites you to pause for a moment and simply be seen.
Perhaps that is why she continues to captivate me after all these years.
