‘Same Motion, Different Pressure’ feels like a map of repetitive motion and structure that doesn’t seek to be identical. The surface is covered in parallel ridges - some straight, some curving in arcs - made by a tool moving through wet plaster. Up close, no two lines are exactly the same: some waver, some stop short, some press deeper than others. For many neurodivergent people, repetition and stimming aren’t about achieving perfect uniformity. They’re about finding rhythm, regulation, and a way to process the world through physical action. The work shows that even within a repeated pattern, there’s room for variation, hesitation, and the hand’s natural drift. It’s order without rigidity.

There’s also something about the material itself that connects to sensory experience. The texture is subtle, visible mainly through shadow and touch rather than bold color. That low-stimulus, tactile quality mirrors how some neurodivergent people relate to the world - through texture, pressure, and small sensory details that others might overlook. The ridges create paths for the eye and the finger to follow, offering a contained space for movement. It doesn’t demand attention loudly; it invites you to slow down and notice the differences in each curve and line. In that sense, the artwork treats neurodivergence not as disruption to a system, but as the system itself - varied, functional, and meaningful in its own right.
