Meet the Artist
Hello! I’m Emeline Gaëlle Cheung, a traditional artist at heart.
My work represents the quiet beauty of everyday life—moments that often go unnoticed but deserve to be remembered. I paint as a collector of moments, drawing from observation, memory, and references that resonate with me, rather than recreating a place exactly as it exists. I like to weave these fragments together into paintings that feel both familiar and timeless.
Art has been part of my life from an early age, shaped through years of exploring different mediums—from silk and glass painting to batik, gouache, watercolour, and pastels. After some time away, motherhood brought me back to art with a clearer focus, finding an approach that reflects how I see the world today.
My process remains rooted in traditional painting techniques, even though I paint digitally. My iPad has been my canvas for some time, allowing me to keep my process simple and flexible within a smaller living space. To preserve the sensitivity, texture, and quality of traditional painting, I carefully chose brushes that mimic the behaviour of real paint.
