‘Shutdown’ has been designed to bring simplicity and elegance. This one strips everything back to near-nothing. A pale sage green surface, brushy and uneven, like primer or a hospital wall. Stuck onto it are five small blocks, all painted the same sage green. They are spaced out with no obvious pattern. One in the center. Four others drift toward the edges. Each block casts a tiny shadow. The surface is scarred with thin scratches and brush marks. It feels unfinished and intentional at the same time. There is no color to hide behind. No texture to distract. Just objects and space.

This can also be seen as the clinical, low-stim version of yourself that comes out when the system is overloaded. After the brick wall cracked, after the gold and the yellow and the chaos, this is the reboot. The green is sensory dampening. You turn the saturation down on the world so you can keep existing in it. The blocks are the few thoughts you can still hold at once. They are simple, isolated, and far apart because your working memory is shot. Spacing them evenly takes too much energy, so you do not. The scratches are the residual noise. The little flickers of anxiety or self-critique that still break through the numbness. This piece is not empty. It is the sound of a brain in battery-saver mode. It is what it looks like when “I’m fine” is the only program running.
