The third installment in The Path to Soul Collection shifts its focus away from the standing giants to document the quiet alchemy of the forest floor. A carpet of fallen leaves is dramatically illuminated by a single, sharp strip of afternoon sunlight, cutting through the shadows like a path. This photograph captures a profound moment of transition: these leaves once brought vital life and energy to the tree canopy, but now, though lit by the sun, they no longer generate life above. Instead, a hidden truth waits just beneath this glowing path. As the leaves break down into the rich soil, they slowly surrender their stored energy back to the earth, quietly nourishing the deep roots of the forest. Drawing from 24 years of cultivating a symbiotic forest garden in Caithness, this composition serves as a visual testament to the invisible soul and collective intelligence of the trees—proving that there is vastly more to the woodland than we have ever presumed.

About the Artist
Rebecca Winkle is an award‑winning animal portrait artist with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a lifelong devotion to drawing that began at age five. Her work is rooted in the ancient landscapes of Caithness, where she has lived for 24 years, raising five children and sharing life with horses, cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, ponies — and the ever‑present cats who wander through her studio.
Her portraits are shaped by the sweeping northern skies, the quiet strength of trees, the softness of roses, and the wildlife that gathers around the Loch of Mey beside the family’s forest garden. Rebecca’s art is lifelike, dramatic, colourful and full of energy, capturing not only the animals she knows so well but the spirit of the land that surrounds her.
Each piece carries a spark of home — the croft, the creatures, the landscape, and the love that has shaped her life and her art.
