This is what a safe space actually looks like to my neurodiverse brain. The wild Atlantic is right there — white caps, crashing, unmasked, doing exactly what it wants to do. And then this human-made calm pool in front, curved wall holding it steady, dark water but still. I stood here a long time. That wall is not pretending the sea isn't rough, it's just saying: you can be close to the rough without being in it. That is how I want to live.
In my Art Without Labels world, I am both waters. Some days I am the open sea — loud, sensory-seeking, too much for people on the promenade. Some days I am this contained pool — quiet, regulated, reflective. Neither is more real than the other. No strict style means I don't have to choose which water I am. This photo reminds me that having a boundary doesn't mean I'm avoiding life. It means I'm making a place where I can actually stay and enjoy the view, with the mountain steady behind me and the palms in their own pattern.
