- This is a relatively old piece, but one with which I am still very pleased.
I wanted to depict a culture in which death is merely a stage of life, and therefore one in which a king retains power even after death. In reality, behind this form of government lies a powerful caste of priests who ‘serve’ the sovereign.
The central figure in this illustration is the high priestess of this cult.
I drew inspiration from Tibetan culture for her and drew on various cultures across the Eurasian region.
The king, on the other hand, is purely a Catholic relic.
