El Albanico

El Albanico, which means the fan, referring to the Spanish fan that women use to cool down in the heat and Flamenco dancers often use in their dance. I painted it on a stretch of canvas which was then glued to a large board by my framer. El Albanico was created in 2016 to be included in my solo exhibition in the town of Nerja. And it was sold to an art collector in 2024, but I'm making it available as a canvas print. 

This painting is part of a series of flamenco dancers, named 'Flamenco with a twist'. This artwork was made with brushes and a pallet knife. I also included some glitter giving it a special energy. However, you will only notice it when you look at it from a certain angle.

It was intuitively painted without using a model.  I was inspired to paint flamenco dancers after attending a performance of flamenco dance and music in the village of La Herradura, located in the province of Granada in Andalusia, which is the cradle of flamenco music and dance. I don't necessarily want to tell a story with my art. If what I create speaks to a viewer, then my story will become their story (which can be a memory for example). I usually mix my paints directly on the canvas and I never look for perfection. You could say that I search for perfection within imperfection.
