Distance is a colorful and playful exploration of the invisible space that can exist between people, even when they are sitting close together. A group of figures appears gathered in a meeting, their faces turned toward one another yet marked by a confronting, almost silent expression. There is a sense of tension beneath the bright and cheerful surface.
Painted in soft pastel with bold accents of green, turquoise, orange, red, yellow, and purple, the work has a vibrant, almost childlike energy. The naive style and simplified figures give the painting a sense of innocence, while the expressions suggest something more complex—a conversation that is happening without words.
