Description:
A contemporary fine art canvas print - a fictional cigarette brand called "Badass Lights," one of 15 imagined pack designs in the Smokin' Pulp collection by Ephemera Gold.
This series reimagines cigarette packaging as pop art, riffing on real vintage Tobacciana aesthetics of the past with entirely faux, invented brands, paying homage to the work of the artists and crafts people who remain largely unknown by the art world — each design has its own name unique theme.

SMOKIN' PULP!
Welcome to my first collection:
Before graphic design simplified everything in the 1950s and from 2012 packaging laws replaced graphics with health warnings and medical pictures, real care went into creating alluring packs for every taste — from exotic Turkish-themed designs to a gentleman's distinguished tab, to a sailor's trusted companion at sea. The artwork did the selling: choosing a brand said something about who you were.
The road to this first collection started with my love of pulp magazines. The Pulps laid the blueprint for the comics, films, TV, and books I've always loved — their artists shaped the compositions and colours still used in book covers, comics, film posters, and advertising today. Researching pulp history, I found something the artists all had in common: almost nobody appreciated them at the time. From there, I started looking at other overlooked mediums: the in-house illustrators and print makers at design houses and publishers who churned out work for things we throw away without a second thought, rarely credited and probably never expecting to be.
