Spring in Strid Wood is inspired by one of my rolls and strolls through the beautiful woodland at Bolton Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales. This print explores the rhythm of the trunks, the filtered light and the repeating patterns that reveal themselves when you slow down and look.

Influenced by the bold colours of David Hockney and the expressive, simplified forms of Henri Matisse, I have reimagined Strid Wood as a joyful tapestry of colour and shape.

Rich pinks, oranges and deep crimson create a contemporary interpretation of the woodland. It is an invitation to pause, notice, look closely and rediscover the joy of the natural world.

  • Acid- and lignin-free and made to last.
  • The natural finish enhances vibrancy and depth.
  • Textured matte surface that enhances depth without losing clarity.
  • Handmade wooden frame from Italy.

About the Artist

I'm Catherine, an author, podcaster, psychotherapist and artist who lives on the edge of the moors in Ilkley, Yorkshire, UK.

My artwork is inspired by Mother Nature, as well as my own journey of surviving breast cancer twice and living with ME and chronic illness/pain.

Many are from my benches and views on Ilkley Moor, or ancient local woodlands on my roll and strolls - as well as flowers from my coffee table and wild places I've visited and been in awe of.

They are all small, energy accommodating, mixed media works (oil pastels, acrylics, gouache, watercolour, acrylic pens, collage, my iPad) and using playful techniques - created from my kitchen table or bed.

Art became such a powerful source of healing and hope for me during difficult times - helping me to reconnect with colour, creativity, self-expression, meaning and joy.

Since cancer, I see the world so much more vividly and that sense of awe and wonder is reflected in my bold, abstract and colourful artwork.

I take huge inspiration from the iconic Bradford artist David Hockney, who not only shares the same landscapes, but also inspired me to come back to art - following a Hockney inspired art class a friend gifted me post cancer at the Bowery Gallery/Cafe in Leeds.

Through vibrant wild landscapes, expressive florals and uplifting pieces, I create nature inspired art that brings colour, aliveness and a reminder of lifes beauty into your home and spaces.

I hope that they bring you joy.

P.S I am also open to commissions, please message or email me to explore.
